A visit at Adamekhut is something
special. It is a long way and a little bit exhausting, if you go
up and down on the same day, but you will be rewarded for all the
pain. Around 1-1 ½ hour it takes to the Upper Gosaulake (1160
m). The way where the river flows can hardly be recognized because
the water of the Upper Lake runs down within the mountains to Lake
Hallstatt. Only at high water there is a river from the Upper Lake
to the Vorderer Gosausee. Arriving at the Upper Lake you have only
made 200 m hight. Now there are still 1100 meters missing to reach
Adamekhut.
The Upper Lake is lying 1160 m above sealevel. It is 900 m long,
500 m wide and its depth is between 36 and 43 m, depending on the
season
Around 200 m before the alpe "Hintere Holzmeisteralm",
at a sign the way turns to the right. Til 2003 the beginning of
this path went through a wood with really old and big trees. A huge
avalanche in february 2003 cut those trees within a few seconds.
Don´t forget to turn back from time to time to enjoy the wonderful
sight down to the Upper Lake.
There is not much water on the way to Adamekhut. There are three
small fountains, but after long periods of sunshine they are dry.
The first fountain you will reach 35 to 45 minutes from Lower Gosausee.
Higher abover we croos the Kreidenriver on a small bridge and after
several serpentines we reach the old Grobgesteinhut.
This hut was built in 1879, 25 years before Adamekhut. Now you can
only see the wall of stones. They were constructed on the side of
a huge stone which fell down from the Gschlößlkogel.
The roof is missing because after Adamekhut was built, this hut
lost its importance. The second fountain is just two minutes away.
Passing the High Riedl (1936 m) you can soon see in the distance
Adamekhut for the first time. On the right side you will see Eiskarlspitz,
a peak like a finger. Below Eiskarlspitz and Hochkesselkopf (on
the right side of Eiskarlspitz) there is "Linzer Weg",
a path which is connecting Adamek and Hofpürglhütte.
At a crossing where a sign shows the way to Simonyhut, there are
just 20 minutes missing. Looking back you can see the mountains
of Gosaukamm and on the very left the Bischofsmütze (which
means hat of a bishop) But now we are looking forward to reach the
Adamekhut and have a break on the wonderful sunterrace. The hut
was built in 1905-1907 and renovated in 1991. It is now a modern
mountain hut and perfect stay for mountaineers and climbers.
Since 1987 Hans Gapp is the chief of http://www.adamek.at.
The view from the sun terrace is just wonderful. Watching up you
will see the Dachstein and the glacier just a glimpse away. Far
away in the west you can see the highest mountain of Austria, the
Großglockner. Looking down there is the Gosaulake where we
started our walk watched by the countless peaks of Gosaukamm.
Many mountaineers of the Adamekhütte are looking forward to
reach a higher goal. They want to climb 2996 m high Dachstein, the
highest mountain of Upper Austria. Another group of visitors which
is getting always bigger are the climbers who discover with the
"Adamek" a small climbing paradise.
