The famous "Dachstein" plays the lead on this 8-day walk.
Beside Großglockner - the highest peak of Austria - Dachstein
is the most known mountain in Austria. In 8 days we will walk around
Dachstein, starting in a tiny little village called Gosau.
Each day we will walk about 4 to 7 Hours. On day one and day three
there is the possibility to walk longer, if we don´t take the
cable cars "Gosaukammbahn" and "Südwandbahn".
But don´t overdo, you should do this only if you are in really
good shape.
Planning a 8 days walk you should think about, what do carry. Don´t
take to much with you, if you don´t want to carry 10 kg. You
don´t need a fresh T-shirt every day. One pair of trousers and
shorts should be enough. In worst case you will find a possibility
to wash your clothes.
What you are taking with you, should be packed in plastic bags, so
that everything stays dry, especially cameras, mobiles and of course
your clothes. I like an umbrella very much.
In the mountain huts you need a thin sleeping bag, a sheet where you
are lying in.
The boots should be good walking boots. If it is wet, your feet should
stay dry for a few hours and not getting wet after five minutes. I
prefer high boots. If you are bying them new, try them at home.
The Salzkammergut and the Dachstein is the land of the lakes. There
are 76!!! lakes in Salzkammergut, the quality of the water is first
class. The water comes from the mountains, from the glaciers of Dachstein.
But in the mountains there is not much water. Limestone has a lot
of holes and caves where the water disappears immediately after rain
has stopped to fall. So please consider this planning your tour.
But now is time to start your walking week. We are waiting for you
in our hotel Gosauerhof at Gosau, where the starting point of the
walk around Gosau is. |
